In the spirit of the getaway, here are some tips we follow to have a healthy break:
1. Use safe sun awareness. Your body produces vitamin D as a direct result of sun on your skin and eyes. Take advantage of more hours of daylight along with nontoxic sunscreens when your exposure is longer.
Visit the Environmental Working Group’s site for their favorite brands. (FREE resource)
2. Eat more raw foods. They’re everywhere, they are in season, and your body craves them. Nuff said.
3. Stick your feet in the ocean. Our bodies love minerals, and even non-swimmers can walk in the sand and dip into the surf. Feet have the largest pores in the body and will absorb trace minerals right out of the ocean. If you’ve ever wondered why your sinuses feel awesome and your body doesn’t ache by the sea, the mineral boost you get just by being there could be part of the reason.
4. Plan ahead for healthy eating. This is the single best travel tip I have. We plan our vacations knowing in advance where we can get healthy food. Sure, there’s always ice cream and pizza at some point on the journey, but we also know where to get good locally source cuisine and plenty of veggies or local seafood to cook in our rental. Trip Advisor has a local option, and we like HappyCow.com for ideas.
